NFA TRANSFERS INFO

How to purchase a NFA item by filing using DOJ eForm website. This is easier that using the paper form 4 and apporval is a lot faster.

This is the basics of purchasing a NFA item. Most dealers will do a lot of this for you. At Oberon Arms, we will do most of the leg work and can provide you with photo taking and fingerprints if you want to use the fingerprint cards vs electronic fingerprints. If you are planning on more than one NFA item, we highly recomment getting electronic fingerprints.

If you purchase a NFA item online and have it sent to Oberon Arms for transfer, there is an $85.00 fee for transfer. If your purchase your NFA item from Oberon Arms, everything is included in the purchase price and there is no transfer fee at pickup. If you have any questions please call us.

  1. Find the NFA item that you want with a dealer. If you purchase it online, it can be sent to a nearby FFL who also has a SOT permit. Some big NFA retailers like Silencer Central will do everything at their place.
  2. You will have to go on the DOJ website and create an account in your name to be able to transfer your item at a later time. Go to https://eforms.atf.gov/login
  3. When your dealer receives your item, you will need to get with them and the two of you will fill out the Form 4 using the dealer’s account. You can file either as an individual or as a trust. If you want to file as a trust, you will have to have a copy of the trust to submit when filing the form 4. Trusts can be made online here at The Trust Shop: https://thetrustshop.net/ or National Gun Trusts: https://www.nationalguntrusts.com
  4. You will need a recent passport type photo and will be required to submit 2 copies of finger prints along with your eform. The cards will need to be mailed or, if you prefer, you can use electronic fingerprints. Electronic fingerprints are good for life and you will only have to have them taken once. You can have electronic fingerprints taken at PrintScan: https://printscan.com/
  5. Once all information is entered you will digitally sign your eForm 4.
  6. Your item with then be put into “NFA jail” until your form 4 is approved, you cannot take it with you that day.
  7. Once your form 4 is approved, you will go to your dealer and fill out a form 4473 just like you were buying a firearm. A background check is not needed for this as it has already been done for the form 4. It is just needed to show the transfer from the dealer to you.
  8. Break your item out of “NFA jail” and go and have some fun!
